When you're on your own, too tired to concentrate, and you feel the urge to pull out an old favorite DVD - one that doesn't make you think but instead makes you feel completely comfortable, content and understood.. what film is it, and why?
Mine is 'Beautiful Girls.'
Tell me yours.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (don't judge me)
ReplyDeleteIf I'm totally honest, then it's anything fun and retro that reminds me of comforting weekend afternoons when I was little, in front of the TV: Some Like It Hot, Funny Girl, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes or anything with Doris Day.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to be cool and indie here but oh well. I like re-watching Up, Juno and the Harry Potter movies. Also, TV shows where life is shiny because I don't have to think- eg Gossip Girl.
ReplyDeleteAt the risk of sounding like I never grew up - it's either The Railway Children or Mary Poppins for me - pratically perfect in every way....
ReplyDeleteParticipation rules! Westside Story because I can sing and dance along (& cry a little); Godfather & Annie Hall because I can get the lines out at the same time. But if I'm feeling really grim, a few episodes of M*A*S*H for the laughter.
ReplyDeleteSugary Cynic - this is not a place that judges you, we all celebrate diverse tastes :)
ReplyDeleteWellywood, I'm with you on Annie Hall and Godfather.
Manda, I'm with you on Juno, I've seen it like a trillion times. Maybe even tonight.
M J - can all the bloggers come over, bring some popcorn, and watch Some Like It Hot?
ReplyDeleteSharon - interesting choices, two films I know little about!
Man... there's way too many. But just to throw my hat in for the sake of it:
ReplyDeleteSwingers
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
High Fidelity
Predator
School of Rock
Dr. Strangelove, or How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Bomb.
ReplyDeleteBut, when I really need comforting, The Apartment.
Ok, you got it out of me. Fiddler on the Roof.
And honorable mention to West Side Story. You're right, Wellywood Woman, can't beat participation.
Yes, but we'll have to do it in shifts, and people might have to bring chairs.
ReplyDeleteGoonies, Fight Club.
