I don't really care how much the latest superhero film took at the box office, although I'd probably know if you asked me. When I watch a film the main thing I am looking for is a good story. I like it when I look up at the big screen and can see a part of me staring back at me. More than anything, I am still looking for Jimmy Stewart and Jack Lemmon and Billy Wilder in every film I see.

Long Live the Video Store
I'm in Sevilla, Spain. I just came across this place. It's closed down now, of course, but I bet it was really cool.
Is that the one in the Alameda? If so, that was my video shop (as customer) for about a year. I used to live in that neighborhood. It was a decent video shop, but there was another close by that was much better (but closed about two years ago). That one was chock-a-block full of indie and foreign films. They had a wall devoted to American indies, a section for Asian cinema, a section organized by european directors. I was devastated when it closed.
I think the Big Orange had several locations around the city, so I'm not sure which one you saw.
Working part-time in a video shop years ago was one of the happiest times of my life. Thanks for reminding me of it and for posting about what must have been a very cool video shop to visit once.
I started following your blog a while back because I'm a cinema fan as well and I write my own cinema blog. I don't remember how it originally came across my radar.
Damn that looks awesome. Makes me nostalgic for the independent video store I used to work at.

Hey Jason, yeah - that's the one. Near the bottom of Alameda, on the right hand side. How did you find this blog? Random!
ReplyDeleteMost of our video stores have closed. The only good thing about it is that they sell all their DVDs for only $1 each when they go out of business.
